Mother’s Day Tea

We celebrated our Mothers today during a special celebration complete with lemonade and cookies.  The students were BEYOND excited to participate in this program today.  Each student created a picture of their mother, a hand print with a poem, and a book of their favorite things about their mother.  They worked so hard! We even learned 3 songs to sing to our mothers.

The silliest part to them was they were asked to greet their mother at the door and ask her, “May I take you to your seat?” They loved it!

After the mothers were seated the students showed them all their gifts and visited with friends at their table.

We sang our songs and then it was time for our refreshments. Everyone had a great time and we are  so thankful so many mothers came today.  You will never know how much it meant to your child to have you there, the smiles on their faces says it all. They grow up so fast and we hope this gave you some great memories of your little one.

Happy Mother’s Day from us to you!

Here’s some pictures of our wonderful mothers. :)

Thank you again moms :)

Fun Friday!!!

Congrats to the students below who earned the Fun Friday popsicles this week! Way to go Super Stars!

Compare/Contrast…

Today we investigated our goldfish and our guppies to see how they are alike and how they are different. We even looked at them up close on the smartboard as they were swimming around. Take a look at our labeled picture and our venn diagram. We have been learning about labels in nonfiction stories we have been reading so today they made their own!

The students did a great job today. Comparing and contrasting is an important academic skill and they are well on their way!

Living Creatures have arrived…and so has our excitement!

This week we had a special package arrive in our classroom full of living creatures for us to investigate and observe. Today we unveiled four of those creatures. I won’t type too much because I went overboard on the pictures but the faces on our students today was priceless. I will NEVER forget it. Next week we’ll look at the other three creatures left.

First we all signed the promise to take care of our creatures…then the fun began!

WATER SNAILS:

REDWORMS:

SOW BUGS: (These bugs are so quick! Each table has their own observation container to look at them throughout the day.) If you blink you might miss them!

We also had goldfish today but they are getting acquainted to their tank so we’ll post pictures later of those. This unit will last us till the end of the year. Each day we’ll be doing experiments, observations, and journal writing about our creatures. Check back soon for more pictures and some of our work. :)

Spring Break has arrived!

I hope you and your family are enjoying a much needed break from school.  When we come back it will be ready to rock and roll into first grade.  Here are some pictures from last week. Enjoy!

Our tennis tournament attendees who got chosen to go to the Family Circle Tennis Cup because they were STAR students! They had a great time!

These two students were so brave and read in front of our whole class. Way to go Sterling and Ty’Laisha! I wonder who will be brave next week and read for us.

The last pictures are from our Easter Egg dying and our jelly bean math.

March Madness, Colorado visitors, and St. Patty’s Day…

It has been a very busy week for our class.  Tuesday night our school had it’s March Madness Basketball Tournament. Although my students are too young to play I volunteered to play on a team.  Boy it was a lot of exercise! We won our first two games to make it to the “Final Four” but lost to a very great team! We had a wonderful time.

On Thursday we had two wonderful volunteers all the way from Colorado.   Regan and Hallie came on an Alternative Spring Break program through their college. They made us two sets of books, read with our students, ate lunch with us, and played with us outside. The kids LOVED them coming to our class. They were such great role models for our students and we were lucky to have them volunteer in our class.

On Friday we celebrated our St. Patty’s Day with graphing lucky charms and eating a special snack for our friends who earned FUN FRIDAY! We had so much to do we ran out of time to finish the rest so Monday we’ll finish up our celebration with more St. Patty’s Day math activities.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!!!

Today was Dr. Seuss’s birthday!!! We celebrated all week by reading Dr. Seuss stories, doing a Dr. Seuss puzzle, and then today we even had a Dr. Seuss movie! We began our day by making our rhyming family hats and heading to the computer lab to visit Seussville. We had a great time! Then we came back to make our own reading door holder for when we’d like some quiet time to read in our rooms. After lunch we had our Thing 1 and Thing 2 cupcakes and watched our movie. We had a great day! Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! Thank you for all the books that help us learn to rhyme!

Happy Friday!

February Point Party…dance it up!

This month we celebrated our PBIS points with a school dance celebration!

These students earned 80% of their points for the month. They were so excited to attend the dance party and they have some moves! :) It was hard to get their pictures because they were so busy dancing!

We are so proud of them. They are great Memminger Superstars!!!!!

Happy Friday!

Donors Choose

This year we have been so lucky to have projects funded by wonderful, generous donors through the website Donors Choose.  Our students just got another project funded this week and they are so excited about it! We now have a listening center in our classroom. See the picture below. The center came with headphones, a listening center organizer, and 6 new titles complete with multiple books and cds! Check out some of our other funded projects this year. If you ever get a chance to give to a classroom through Donors Choose, please do. It’s a wonderful program for teachers but most of all for students! Thank you again for each and every donor we’ve had this year! We are extremely blessed!
